We’re hiring a Sr. Manager of Communications to join our team, responsible for overseeing the Skimm’s comprehensive communication strategy. This role is based in New York, NY.

About our team and what you’ll be working on

As theSkimm’s Sr. Manager of Communications, you will develop and execute innovative and impactful communications strategies to promote theSkimm brand. This is a matrixed role where you will partner with internal and external stakeholders, oversee key priorities and initiatives and bring impact-driven strategies to life. You will play a critical role as partner with our agency, playing the role of owner and liaison of all communication back at theSKimm. You have an innovative approach to industry engagement, and a proven track-record elevating company spokespeople to reach both business and consumer audiences. You are a creative thinker and ready to contribute ideas to build theSkimm brand and champion those ideas across the finish line. As the connector between our agency and our internal teams, you have the ability to be thoughtful and strategic while simultaneously executing and producing results in a fast-paced environment. You set and exceed high standards and are a highly organized, adaptable, and collaborative team player.

How you’ll contribute to our mission

  • Developing and executing dynamic communications strategies that support key company initiatives, products, and business objectives
  • Innovating and ideating ways to grow theSkimm brand through media relations, thought leadership, editorial campaigns, and aligning partners internally and externally to bring them to life
  • Direct and manage PR agency relationship, ensuring strategic alignment and optimal performance for communications strategies; provide the connective link between the agency and theSkimm
  • Working with theSkimm’s CEOs and executives, as well as cross-functional teams (Editorial, Sales, Commerce, Product, Data and People) to identify insights, build narratives, and execute initiatives in partnership with our agency
  • Drafting high quality written material, messaging, pitches, Q&As, press releases, and briefings to support company spokespeople for press interviews and conference appearances
  • Maximizing press impact by implementing strategies to amplify coverage, including leveraging social media, partnerships, and more.
  • Organizing brand materials, press clips, conference and awards calendars, and managing department budget and expenses
  • Supporting on special projects, brand and editorial campaigns, events, and internal initiatives
  • Partnering when needed with our internal team to ensure we are developing cohesive communications for our employees

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of public relations or communications experience
  • Self-starter attitude and experience working at high-growth, fast-paced organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects under pressure, accounting for both short-term needs and longer-term vision
  • Knowledge and comfort navigating the media space. Strong industry relationships and brand partnership experience are a plus.
  • A calm and professional demeanor and proven ability to handle high intensity situations with sensitive and confidential information evenly and with discretion
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor messages for distinct audiences
  • Exceptional project management skills and strong attention to detail
  • A love and respect for theSkimm’s brand, mission, and audience

The expected annual base salary for this role is $90,000-$100,000. We’ll consider various factors when determining the offered base salary, including evaluating a candidate’s skills, abilities, experience, location, market demands, and internal parity.

What about the office?

This is a full-time role based in New York, NY, with flexibility for remote work.

Our office is available to use Monday through Thursday. We have a hybrid environment and ask that employees within the New York Metro area come together in person a minimum of 2 times per week. All other days are up to the employees’ discretion during the three days a week that the office will be open.
